Personal Goals

March 15, 2008 · 6 comments

I often set goals that never get accomplished. I hope to change this by blogging about them. If they are here, in black and white for all the world to see, I must be accountable for them. So… here goes, in no particular order:

1. Completely eliminate consumer debt by July 2008 (excluding mortgage, cars, and student loans).

“The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously” (Psalm 37:21)

2. Continue to build emergency savings fund, replacement fund, and gift funds.

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but [the] foolish… devour all [they have]” (Proverbs 21:20)

3. Live simply, seeking moderation and contentment with what I have, and avoid waste as much as possible.

“Beware! Don’t be greedy for what you don’t have. Real life is not measured by how much we own” (Luke 12:15).

4. Increase giving, by sharing with those in need and supporting our church.

“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share” (1 Timothy 6:18).

5. Strive to be the best help mate I can be to my husband.

“She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life” (Proverbs 31:12)

6. Cultivate a steward’s mindset in regards to my home. Keep it in order and presentable as much as possible.

“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks” (Proverbs 31:17).

7. Make menu planning each week a habit and priority, in order to save money, avoid eating out, and reduce stress.

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed” (Proverbs 16:3).

8. Focus on my children’s spiritual growth.

“Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deut. 11:19).

9. Find new and creative ways to live frugally and reduce spending in all areas of my life.

“Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread” (Proverbs 30:8).

10. Make good choices about my diet, exercise and overall health.

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” (1 Cor. 6:19)

I will post again about my goals in a few months to see how well I have applied them to my life.

Your list looks great. I love to make lists as well and it keeps me focused.
I wanted to add a book that has made a world of difference in my marriage, teaching me to be a helpmeet. It is worth a read, Created to be His Helpmeet by Debi Pearl.
