Survey Says: Frugal is the "New Black"

May 12, 2008 · 3 comments

I enjoyed hosting my frugal journey survey last week. Thank you to those who participated! The results are quite revealing.

The majority of you began your frugal journey in the last year, myself included. This speaks volumes about consumer confidence, and the fragile state of our economy.

Why is this good news? Well, in my humble opinion, being frugal is losing it’s stigma of being “cheap” or only for the lower class. Today, being frugal is simply smart! Using coupons and strategically saving money is not only necessary, it is also a wise and responsible way to live.

I am pleased to report that my family is getting closer and closer to being “consumer” debt-free. This would not be possible had I not completely changed the way I shop. Not that I was recklessly buying designer duds and gourmet foods, but I was certainly paying more than I had to for everyday needs.

Our next step is to eliminate our 2 (yikes) car payments and to begin tackling the student loans. In the meantime, our economic stimulus check is safely tucked into savings (sorry, President Bush) and I will continue to be a good steward of the resources God has provided.

My creative juices are running low today, so if you have a suggestion for my next survey, I am all ears!

We just began our journey this year as well. I’m glad that more and more people are chosing to be wise stewards of the money God has given them. It’s easier to chose than to have circumstances force you into being frugal.

We paid off our last vehicle with our tax return and our Home Depot credit card is getting our stimulus check. One step closer to being debt free!

Hey sis, you are supposed to put that money back into the economy. I’m thinking 4 tickets to orange county.. :) P.s (that money is from congress, not Bush)

Kristie-
Good point, being frugal can be a choice. Congrats on being almost debt free! It will be so worth it!

Little Sis-
Thanks for setting me straight on that one! Being the frugal mommy that I am, we decided to forgo the plane tickets and will take a road trip! See you in August!
