Did you hear? USPS announced yesterday that the price of a postage is stamp is rising- again. Starting May 11th, the price for a first-class stamp will increase to 44 cents, up 2 cents.
So what does this mean? Time to stock up on those 42 cent “Forever Stamps”. They will be honored, well… forever, regardless of future price increases.
Thank goodness for the Interwebz! In our home, we pay nearly every bill online. I very rarely purchase postage stamps, with the exception of Christmas, Birthday and Thank You cards.
But I do still intend to purchase several books of the Forever Stamps, as a frugal way to save in the long run. Will you be stocking up?

I probably will buy a book or two, but I still have some Forever stamps that I stocked up on before the LAST price increase. Luckily, like you, I pay all my bills online and really only use my stamps for rebates and Christmas cards

Geez…what are they doing now, price increases annually now? Like you, I’m a big fan of paying bills online, so I don’t use nearly the amount of postage stamps that I used to. But…I’m going to grab some freedom stamps this ‘go round as it now appears the prices are going up annually!

I wonder if they will continue to go up at this rate? I just bought a book of stamps (for thank you cards) and will probably buy a few more. Like you, I only use them for cards (oh, and a few rebates) so they last a long time around here. At nearly half a dollar each, its a good thing!

I will definitely be stocking up on the forever stamps! Can’t believe how expensive it is to mail a letter. I am surprised with the invention of email that the price of stamps hasn’t declined. Does any send letters any more?

I can’t even imagine – soon it will be 50 cents to mail a piece of paper! The math just doesn’t seem right. Stamps are probably one of the few things you can stock up on without taking up any space so I guess I’ll be on my way to the post office soon

I understand, I sell a lot of extra coupons on eBay, so i go through stamps like crazy, but the post office is losing money, my mom is a mail handler, and she isnt getting any overtime, they are really watching that sort of thing.

I heard about this. The government got rid of the restrictions on how often the USPS could increase its prices, and since the restrictions have been removed prices have gone up EVERY year.
I wish they’d increase the prices for bulk (junk) mail instead! The USPS would certainly make more money, and maybe we’d get less junk mail!

Actually the US has the cheapest mail rates in the world. In Norway it’s like $2 for a single letter.
And it doesn’t actually make sense to stock up on stamps because the price of stamps has historically been WAY below the inflation rate.

I don’t use stamps too much either but I like keeping the forever stamps on hand! I plan on getting several books before the price increase.

Does it occur to anyone that not using the mail forces prices up? The USPS must still maintain its infrastructure – the mailman still has to cover the same number of miles to deliver fewer items – the cross country carriers still have to cover the same miles (though perhaps fewer times) regardless of the number of items being delivered. Cost efficiency goes up with volume, not the other way around.

The price will be going up $.2 every year until it reaches $.50 according to the cashier at the post office in my city. Stock up on the “Forever stamps”. I pay half my bills online and half snail mail… plus rebates, etc.
