Giveaway: EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor (now closed)

March 25, 2009 · 128 comments

Congratulations to last week’s winner of the fabulous diaper cake from Diaper Cakewalk!

Commenter #52 – jceko77

She gets to choose any 3-tiered cake from the bestsellers gallery at Diaper Cakewalk.

On to this week’s giveaway, a must-have for worried moms!

I wish I had discovered this product years ago. Actually, I wish my mother had one when I was growing up! She raised 4 girls who loved to swim, and were constantly plagued with swimmers’ ear. I will never forget the pain of those infections.

The EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor is easy to use, and gentle on a child’s ear. It is a fast and easy way for parents to check for fluid in the middle ear. I imagine this is tremendously helpful when you have a child who cannot yet verbalize what they are feeling!

It is safe to use in children ages 6 months to young adult. You simply position the tip in your child’s ear, and press scan. Within seconds, results are indicated on the display panel.

My favorite aspect of the EarCheck? It can eliminate unnecessary doctor office visits.

For example, my older daughter has allergies that affect her sinuses. She occasionally mentions pain and pressure in her ear when the allergies are flaring up. Just a few months ago, we visited the doctor only to be told she did not have an ear infection. By using the EarCheck, I now know if she simply needs to take her antihistamine, or make a trip to the doctor for antiobiotics. Money saved!

I also appreciate that the EarCheck can detect signs of fluid at the early stages of infection, before your child is miserable. There is nothing worse than a cranky toddler with a full blown ear infection!

****************************

Would you like a chance to win your own EarCheck Monitor? This would also make a great gift for a new mom.

For a chance to win:

1. Leave a comment below telling me how you would benefit from having an EarCheck Monitor (initial entry).

For Bonus Entries:

2. If you are a subscriber or follower (thank you!), leave a separate comment. You may subscribe for free updates via RSS or email and leave a comment telling me you have done so.

3. For a third entry, add Keeping the Kingdom First to your blogroll or add my badge to your sidebar. Leave a separate comment with a link to your site.

This contest will close on Friday, March 27th, at 10pm CST. The winner will be selected by random.org and contacted via email.

Good luck, and thank you for entering!

Wow, I wish I would have had this last week! My 5yo had what I thought was a minor earache until he woke up Friday morning with blood draining from his ear. Turns out he had a burst ear drum, and I felt like a totally rotten mom.

Great giveaway, Alyssa!

As competitive swimmers growing up, and belonging to a pool club in the summer, my sister and I were always dealing with swimmers’ ear! I know my sister could use one of these now with 4 little boys who are prone to ear infections. In fact, her two youngest both have ear infections right now.

I have two kids. My 2 year old is non-verbal due to developmental delays and my other child is a newborn. It will be helpful to know if they are crying due to an ear infection. This is especially important to me since I lost my own hearing as a baby due to ear infections.

My one l year old son was just diagnosed with an ear infection last month, and this would help us to determine if he is still suffering from an ear infection, or if he is just cranky from teething. Wow, I had no idea they made these! My 9mo. old has a life-altering Urea Cycle Disorder. Too much protein (whether from food or infection, virus/bacteria etc) causes ammonia to build in his brain and leads brain damage or even coma/death. Ear infections are our ENEMY! The tiniest infection can send him into hyperammonia and has to be flown to John’s Hopkins for emergency treatment. This product would be such a blessing and relief!

This past fall, my son woke up one night complaining of a boo-boo in his ear. I took him to the doctor’s the very next day to be told he had “rip-roaring ear infections” in both ears. A month later, we followed up with the doctor to find out that the antibiotics hadn’t cleared up the infection and he had to be treated again. I’m now worried that he’d actually had the infections since last spring when we took him in for a possible UTI to be told he had an ear infection too. Apparently my 2 year old has a very high pain tolerance and this would be helpful as I’ve realized there seems to be a fine line between hypochondria and neglect as a parent!

He’s had a cold for over a week and I think he may now have an ear infection. I’m not sure though, so if I had this EarCheck, which sounds like a wonderful product, I might have a better idea. I grew up with ear infections too because I swam a lot. My ear drum ended up busting and it was the worst pain I’ve ever been through in my life. My grandaughter and grandson take after their mother with the number of ear infections they have. Since they can’t tell us what is wrong the EarCheck Monitor would really help.

I’ve got a young child and it would be great to know whether he has an ear infection or it’s just his allergies.

My son gets horrible ear infections but shows very little signs that he has them until they are horrible. This could help!

My first daughter had chronic ear infections and is on her second set of tubes. My newest little one is well on her way. We are constantly at the doctor’s office, and always wondering if she has yet another ear infection. Is she fussing because of teeth? Or is is an ear infection? This past week the nurse at the doctor told me she was going to set up a cot for us. I would love to be reassured by the ear check. Thanks for such a great give away!

I have 3 kids under 3 in my home. During the winter we are cooped up inside with sickness for what seems an eternity ;) . The thermometer we have now is a guessing game. I would love to have something more reliable for those days of wondering if they are sick or REALLY sick!

My son is prone to ear infections so its something I have to watch closely for. However we don’t have insurance so it would be wonderful to KNOW if I have to take him in or if I’m just worrying for nothing.

I have two boys, 3 1/2 and 1 yr so I would love to know as soon as they have an ear infection to prevent them from as much pain as possible. Thanks :)

What a great idea! I had no idea these even existed. I have 1 and 1/2 year old who is constantly touching and pulling on her ears and we’ve gone to the doctor a few times with false alarms, so it would definitely be a money and time-saver to be able to check her at home! Thanks!

I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old that has had several ear infections that we’ve made trips to the doctor for. You always wonder what’s wrong, then the dr tells you for sure! This would help figure it out a little quicker! I’ll have to find these!
