Introducing The Walgreens $5 Challenge: July 12-18

KFM's $5 Wags Challenge

Welcome, my fellow Walgreens fans! I am thrilled to launch the all new Walgreens $5 Challenge. Spread the word, and let’s help the newbies learn the ropes!

Walgreens is a bit different than CVS, so it may be a bigger challenge to obtain a low OOP (out of pocket). I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with in their scenarios!

If you are a first time visitor, here’s the lowdown:

Join me each week as I host The Walgreens $5 Challenge!

Seasoned WAGS shoppers: share your best scenario(s) for the upcoming week at Walgreens.

Your budget: $5.00 out-of-pocket cash.

Your mission: to grow that $5.00 into more Register Rewards (RR) to use in upcoming weeks.

*********************************

*RULES* Bloggers: Please make sure at least one scenario is $5 OOP or less

1. Come up with your best scenario/scenarios for the upcoming week at Walgreens using the current weekly ad, monthly deals, and coupons available. Your budget for Out of Pocket (OOP) expenses on the first transaction is only $5.00 (either cash OOP or RRs on hand).

2. Using up to (3) scenarios (we don’t want to overwhelm the newbies with too many transactions), offer up your best scenarios to “grow” that $5.00 into more RRs to use in following weeks.

3. If you want to divide your $5.00 allowance over the 3 scenarios to make them work, that’s fine!

4. Be sure to list coupons by inserts and/or with links to printables to make it easier for everyone to follow along.

*********************************

Here is MY $5 Scenario for the week of July 12th:
*coupons in red (you will need a Walgreens ad for some coupons, available in your Sunday paper or in-store)

Since this is the first week of the challenge, I am going to feature just one simple scenario.

Transaction #1
Buy 1 Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste@ $2.99
Buy 2 Swanson Chicken Broth @ 2/$1.00*
Buy 2 Mini Highlighters @ $0.19/each*
Buy 3 1-Subject Notebooks @ 3/$1.00*
Buy 1 Writing Tablet or Envelopes @ $0.59/each*
$1.00/1 Colgate Total (SS 7/12/09)
*Walgreens In-Ad coupons

Total After Coupons= $4.96

RRs earned= $1.00

Total Value= $9.53 with $1.00 RRs remaining!

Keep rolling those RRs for even more savings!

*********************************
There you have it! A way to play the Wags game by helping newbies learn the ropes. And who knows – you just might be inspired yourself by some of the deals you find, too!

Simply post your scenarios on your blog, then drop by Keeping the Kingdom First and add your permalink to the Mr. Linky box below.

Please link directly to your scenarios. Links directly to your homepage will be deleted. Linking back to this meme to share it with others is greatly appreciated!

Don’t have a blog? You can leave a comment with your scenario, too. I invite everyone to participate.

I’m so glad that you’re doing this!! You inspired me months ago to start shopping the rebates from CVS and Wags… sadly then two months later Walgreens cancelled the Easy Saver!! Rats- just when I was getting into it! :)

I’m starting to get the hang of this, but it is really helpful to see how other people do it!!

I am excited to see the scenario’s but your first one with Mister Linky from Charlene is a “CVS scenerio “not a Walgreen’s one.

Noticed the comment, I’ve actually shopped both CVS and Walgreens this week –unless someone corrected the link already, it does in fact, link to a Walgreens shopping trip.

Just a comment for your other readers who may be new to Walgreens–they are like CVS in that they often have unadvertised clearance discounts–I always bring my coupons with me because you never know what you may find on clearance.

I have been doing the Walgreen’s deals for a little over a year, and each week is so much fun for me!!! I love getting my freebies, enjoy the challenge of the RR’s, and mostly enjoy being able to donate some of my finds to our church and school.

This week I had $6 in RR from last week.

I bought 3 500 ML Listerines, on sale 3/$9
I used 3 $1 off Listerine coupons, MFC
I got $3 RR back
4 Mechanical pencils (10 pk), .39 each = 1.56
3 page divider packs .39 each = 1.17
1 pack of page protectors = .39
TOTAL = $9.12 (after $3 MFCs)
Used $6 in RR from last week = 3.12 OOP
RR earned 3.00

I don’t see a Mr. Linky. I’ll keep checking back to post later. My total OOP is actually $6 this week, but it includes chocolate, so I’ll lose the challenge and eat my chocolate while the rest of you have fun with your school supplies.

Business Mommy- I am so sorry, I don’t know what happened to Mr. Linky! I am researching the problem now. It was showing up fine yesterday. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for hosting! They are building a new CVS in our town, so ours is in a temporary spot. So, I have been hitting Walgreens more.

Liz, you are very welcome! We just got a new Walgreens down the street and that is actually what inspired the new challenge. Thank you for reading!

I am new to all of this, but anxious to get started. I am just curious…when you get up to the counter with all your stuff do you just say, “I have 3 seperate transactions to make?” and then after you do one and the RR prints out you turn right around and hand it back to them to pay for the 2nd and 3rd transaction? Do they let you do that everywhere?
