A Frugal Date Night

September 24, 2009 · 9 comments

date nightAfter last week’s frugal slumber party (which I am still recovering from), I could really use a night out with my wonderful husband.

Although I would love an indulgent overnight rendezvous, complete with a couples’ day at the spa…I must be realistic.

So here is the plan:

A visit to “our” favorite restaurant, one without crayons and paper menus. With a coupon, of course. Cost= $xx.xx

Great conversation over a leisurely meal= Priceless

Followed by a trip to the movie theater to see Julie & Julia (which I have been dying to see). With 2 FREE movie tickets from Swag Bucks. Cost= zero dollars

A chance to enjoy a movie, hand in hand, without distractions= Priceless

Next, perhaps a round of bowling in our living room on our new wii= zero dollars

Laughing together= Priceless

Later, a shoulder rub for Troy and a foot rub for me= zero dollars

The chance to reconnect as husband and wife= Priceless

Now I just need a sitter…. any takers?

I’ll watch the kids for you if you watch Ainsley one night so I can have a date night :)

What a wonderful plan.

You are going to love Julie & Julia. I plan to buy it when it is released. Hopefully with a coupon or at a great discount. My daughter (14 yrs old) and I went to see it. We love to cook and both give it 2 thumbs up.

Have a great date night with your husband.

Sounds like fun! Especially the FREE movie and FREE Wii! If I didn’t live so far (Maryland!) I would sit for ya!

Such great ideas Alyssa! And yes, I would babysit! :) If you cannot find anyone closer and need a sitter sometime, let me know. I would be more than happy to. Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us!

After years of hoping, we finally found another family to trade babysitting nights with us! So two weeks ago we had a great time as a couple while they watched our kids. Tonight it is our turn to return the favor. And I’m hoping I’ll soon have enough Swagbucks for a movie ticket or two soon. Thanks for sharing your ideas! Maybe you can find another couple to set up a trade too…

Julia- Great idea to trade sitting! I actually could ask my neighbors, who would probably gladly accept. Maybe it could even be a regular thing! It is so important for a marriage to have that time together.
