CVS: Earn ECBs with a Green Bag Tag!

October 13, 2009 · 18 comments

Welcome to Keeping the Kingdom First! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email digest for free updates. Thanks for visiting!

Hey, CVS fans! Here is an easy new way to earn a few additional ExtraCare Bucks. Next time you head to CVS, be on the lookout for the cute little bag tag pictured above.

Purchase one for $0.99 (I am assuming you can use ECBs), and attach it to your favorite reusable shopping bag. Each time you shop at CVS, have it scanned, just like your ExtraCare card.

Every 4th shopping trip, an extra $1.00 ECB will print out with your receipt! Even shopping just once a week at CVS will net you an extra dollar a month. And an extra dollar at CVS can actually go a long way. :)

I love this incentive for shoppers to remember those green bags! Now the only hard part will be choosing which bag to tie it on (I have over a dozen).

Thanks, Deal Seeking Mom!

Is the purchase price a donation of some sort?

That’s a good question, Corrin. I am actually not sure, but it should be!

This is a great idea by CVS. I wish more stores in my area would do more things like this.

Is it a limit of 1 per card? per bag… I only use green bags, and LOVE to get ECBs for something I am already doing!

Sounds like a great idea… I hope I can find one at my local CVS soon! I may just keep mine in my purse and attach it before arriving at the register, since I, too, have a ton of reusable bags and never know when I’ll have a certain one with me.

I guess I get it, but it seems so random to have to purchase a tag…why not just give a credit per reusable bag. I believe that it is a limit of one tag per day, which doesn’t reinforce using multiple bags at a visit. A per bag credit would be better.

I live in SW Indiana and showed your post to my local CVS and they hadn’t even heard of it as something new coming.

I have the reusable bags and would love to get credit for using them. But I guess the best credit is knowing I am saving one more plastic bag from ending up in the landfill.

Thank You very much for helping save money

Hi Carol,
I have yet to see them at my CVS as well. Hopefully it is something they are rolling out nationwide and we will all see them soon in our stores!

You are totally right though, saving one more plastic bag is the best credit. I agree! :)

Hey, I read in an article that all stores should have them by the end of November, so keep a look-out! Mine had them this week though, so I was excited. They also said in the article that a portion of the money from this will be donated, but was very vague on details. Hope this helps!

I first posted on Oct 18th that my CVS didn’t have them. Guess who has them now. I got one today when I picked up some RX’s. Now to remember the bags and the tag on the same trip.
If you buy one of CVS’s reusable bags for $.99, there is a tag/label on there with a $.50 coupon off of their Earth Essentials products which the paper towels and Toilet Paper big bundles are on sale for $5.00 this week. I like the TP because they are double rolls and thin paper to flow through the plumbing easier.
Thanks for all the time you use to keep this site going.

Hooray, that is great news! I love the Earth Essentials paper towels myself. Hopefully this means I will be seeing them soon at my CVS. Thanks for the update, Carol!
