Give Hope with World Vision (Giveaway!)

All month long, I have shared special giving ideas and giveaways as part of the 30-Day Giving Challenge. This is our 12th and final sponsor!

Today, as we approach the end of the 30 Day Giving Challenge, we are honored to partner with World Vision to offer a unique prize package that supports women and families around the world, giving them a hand up out of poverty.

What could be more fitting for the end of this journey?

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. As an organization, World Vision is dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people and serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

I love how they summarize their vision:

Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness; Our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so.

Many of the donations to World Vision’s Maximum Gift Fund, which provides for the unique needs of children and families worldwide, also include a special gift to keep or give to someone else, such as the tumbler, bracelet or book that are included in the prize package below!

As part of the 30 Day Giving Challenge, I will be donating prize package I received to our church home, and I will be letting my girls choose an entrepreneur to support with the micro loan gift card.

One Keeping the Kingdom First reader will also win a World Vision prize package to keep or donate, including:

  • A Ugandan Bracelet, handcrafted in Uganda by women actively engaged in caring for children in their communities who have lost parents to AIDS.
  • $25 World Vision Micro Gift Card to help a hardworking entrepreneur by funding their small business loan — to buy a sewing machine, a bicycle, training, or whatever will put their families on the pathway to success.
  • A Thai Coin Purse, handmade in Thailand by women in World Vision job training projects.

Ornaments 4 Orphans: Buy An Ornament. Bless A Child.

All month long, I am sharing giving ideas and causes as part of The 30-Day Giving Challenge. The following is a guest post from Meagan of Frugal Fun and Fortune.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” – James 1:27

Fact: Over 12 million children in sub-Saharan Africa are orphaned due to AIDS.
Fact: Over 50 million Americans set up Christmas trees in their homes each year.

Let’s just face it – Christmas has gotten turned upside down. A beautiful holiday that is supposed to be centered around worship, giving, love, joy, and peace…has turned into a holiday about shopping, checking gifts off a list, stress, commercialism, over-spending, going into debt, you get the picture.

What are we truly celebrating at Christmas? The birth of Jesus. The arrival of the ultimate love, peace, and joy. The One who gave it all, the One we adore, the One who deserves all of our affections and attention, the One we worship.

When it is somebody’s birthday, we usually celebrate by giving a gift to that person. So how will we celebrate the birthday of Jesus this year? What will we give to Him? How do we give to God? When I dive into the scriptures, I see a loving God who cares about people, demands social justice, identifies with the poor, and loves the children and orphans.

I see a God who whispers…

“loose the chains of injustice”
“sell everything you have and give to the poor”
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat”
“I needed clothes and you clothed me”
“I was sick and you looked after me”

It’s safe to say that if we want to give a heartfelt gift to God this season in celebration of His Son’s birthday, we should start with the poor, lonely, orphaned, and sick…

That’s what Ornaments 4 Orphans is all about. You know those 2 big numbers in the facts presented at the beginning of this post? Ornaments 4 Orphans exists to help those numbers meet. That’s right – 50 million Christmas trees can somehow help the 12 million children in Africa orphaned by AIDS. And it starts with YOU. ME. US. EVERYBODY.

When you buy an ornament from Ornaments 4 Orphans, your money goes directly towards enriching the lives of beautiful Ugandan children. Each ornament is fair trade and hand-crafted in East Africa. There are many different varieties to choose from: stars, crosses, baskets, bells, etc. They even have unique nativity sets. All of the ornaments are $10 each. A small price for a beautiful ornament that can make a BIG difference. Buy one for your tree. Buy one as a gift for somebody else’s tree. Just know that when you buy an ornament, you’re giving a gift of true and lasting meaning this season.

If you’re interested in making an even bigger impact, you can sponsor an O4O tree in your church, school, home, or office. For more information, e-mail ornaments(at)pearlministries(dot)org.

My dear friend Jamie, U.S. director of Ornaments 4 Orphans, has offered to give away FIVE O4O ornaments!

Five lucky winners will receive a “lidded basket” ornament, woven out of natural grasses. The little lids even open to hide special things in your tree. How fun!

  • To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post. Share your heart, comment on this great organization, or go check out some of the ornaments and tell us which is your favorite.

The giveaway will end on Tuesday, November 30th, at 9pm CST. The winners will be selected at random and notified via email.

Give Organization with a Savvycents Wallet! (Giveaway)

This month, I am sharing giving ideas and special giveaways as part of The 30-Day Giving Challenge.

Shopping is on everyone’s mind this time of year. The first step to having a frugal holiday is of course, a budget.

Are you familiar with the envelope system of budgeting? Basically, you budget according to certain categories of expenses and then you actually withdraw the cash and keep it in separate envelopes in your wallet. If you overspend, you can take cash out of a different envelope, but once the cash is gone, it’s gone.

Frustrated with paper envelopes and disorganization with her wallet, Melinda Claudpierre created a wallet that allows you to keep your cash in separate categories and also gives you quick access to your driver’s license, coin holder and all of your discount cards and coupons.

This system would also work well for all you $5 Challenge shoppers!

As a stay-at-home mom of three, Melinda knew that she wanted all of these things without sacrificing style, and so she designed the Savvycents wallet as an attractive wallet that any woman would love to carry!

The 8″ x 4″ wallet contains everything you need to organize your monthly or weekly budget using a cash system. With an accordion style file system inside the wallet, you can separate money, coupons, receipts or store discount cards by categories. There are also 6 pockets for debit cards and store discount cards as well as a place for your driver’s license and check book.

My friend Jennifer from Saving and Giving says this about her Savvycents wallet:

I’ve been using my Savvycents wallet for six months, and my cash is so
much more organized. I had been using paper envelopes before, but they ripped or got lost in the bottom of my purse. Now I can open my wallet and easily see how much cash is left in each category. If I find a cute top for my daughter, I can see if there’s clothing money available to buy it or not. I’m not fumbling through envelopes when I check out either. The Savvycents wallet is stylish and functional.

As part of the 30-Day Giving Challenge, I will be donating the adorable Savvycents wallet I received to a local charity.

One KingdomFirstMom.com reader will also win a Savvycents wallet ($24.95 value) to share or enjoy!
